About your lawyer

When you hire a lawyer, you are trusting a stranger with your home, your family, your status in Canada or your freedom. Here is what you can expect from the person you will be dealing with at AJ Law.

Ajay S. Praveen, Barrister & Solicitor, Notary Public

You will understand what is happening

I spent years teaching — first medical students and laboratory staff, later college courses in healthcare leadership and law — before I started practising. Explaining difficult things in plain language is a habit, not an effort. You will leave every conversation knowing where your matter stands, what happens next, and what it will cost.

Your file gets a careful reading

Before law, I trained and practised as a physician, running a hospital transfusion service where a missed detail on a form could hurt someone. I bring the same discipline to a disclosure package, a title search or an immigration refusal letter: read everything, question everything, and build the case on what the documents actually say.

I know what it is like to be on your side of the desk

I came to Canada as a trained professional and requalified from scratch — the National Committee on Accreditation exams, articling, the bar. I have filled in the forms, waited for the decisions and worried about the deadlines. That experience shapes how I treat clients going through immigration, a first home purchase, or a first encounter with the courts.

Fees are clear before the work starts

The firm's tagline — Empowering Justice: Affordable Legal Solutions for All — is the reason it exists. You will get a clear fee quote up front, no surprise charges, and honest advice about whether a step is worth paying for. If I do not think you need a lawyer for something, I will tell you.

You will get a straight answer

Some clients want to hear that their case is a sure thing. I would rather tell you the real strengths and weaknesses at the start, so you can make decisions with your eyes open. That is how a defence gets built and how a bad deal gets avoided.

I am the principal lawyer at AJ Law Professional Corporation in Mississauga, licensed by the Law Society of Ontario. I act for individuals and small businesses across the Greater Toronto Area in criminal defence, real estate, family law and immigration, and I also handle wills, powers of attorney, estates and notarial work.

I am a member of the Criminal Lawyers' Association, a lifetime member of the South Asian Bar Association of Toronto, and a member of the Peel Law Association. Outside the office I speak to groups of internationally educated professionals about navigating a new career in Canada, and I offer notarial and commissioner-of-oaths services free of charge to students marking academic milestones.
